Key Information
Mindestlohn
The German minimum wage (Mindestlohn) is a statutory hourly minimum wage that applies to nearly all employees. It's set by the Minimum Wage Commission and updated regularly.
Coverage
The minimum wage applies to employees aged 18 and over. Some exceptions exist for apprentices, interns under 3 months, and long-term unemployed in their first 6 months of work.
Mini-Jobs
Even mini-jobs (Minijobs) must pay at least the minimum wage. The €520 monthly limit determines how many hours can be worked (currently ~43 hours/month at minimum wage).
Sector Minimums
Some industries have higher sector-specific minimum wages through collective agreements, such as construction, cleaning, and care work.
